History

Stibo was founded in 1794. During the years, we have developed from being a traditional printing house into a modern, advanced international company excelling at graphic processes, production and software. Having been in business for more than 200 years, our history plays an important role in our company’s culture today. Below we have listed some of the highlights of our history.

2020

CCI Europe changes its name to Stibo DX. The name change to Stibo DX highlights the company’s strong relation to its parent company, the Stibo Group, and underlines the core offering of Stibo DX. DX is short for digital experiences, digital transformation, and digital excellence.

Stibo Complete acquires Rosendahls Print-Design-Media


2019

The Stibo Group celebrates its 225-years' anniversary.

Hans Damgaard, former CEO of the Stibo Group for 14 years, decides to step down as CEO and start a board career. He joins Stibo's board of directors as chairman of the strategy committee, while Carsten Christensen, his closest colleague and co-director for many years, takes over as CEO.

CCI Europe acquires the German company Digitial Collections.


2018

Stibo Printing Solutions changes its name to Stibo Complete in order to adopt a name that matches the company's position as Scandinavia's leading player within design, development, production, and distribution of physical marketing materials.

 The Group of Analysts has ranked Stibo Systems as a leading PIM-provider in its  Market Performance Wheel (MPW) evaluation.

Stibo Complete acquires the Swedish company GigantPrint.

Stibo Systems is recognized as a leader in Product Information Mangement by the independent research firm Forrester Research Inc.


  2017

Stibo Systems is positioned as a Challenger in Gartner's 'Inaugural Magic Quadrant' for Master Data Management Solutions.


 2016

Stibo Printing Solutions acquires Swedish printing company Sörmlands Grafiska AB and strengthens its position as the leading printing company in Scandinavia.

Stibo Systems is recognized as Best in Class in the 'Product Information Management Provider in Consumer Goods Technology’s Annual Readers’ Choice Awards'.


 2015

Stibo Systems achieves a near-perfect score in Ventana Research’s '2015 Value Index for Product Information Management (PIM)' for the third year running.

Stibo Systems is named a leader in the '2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management of Product Data Solutions' for third year running.

Stibo Systems is recognized as a world leader within information management by Software Magazine for the second year in a row.

Stibo Systems is named a 'Most Promising Energy Technology Solution Provider 2015' by CIO Review.


2014
Stibo Printing Solutions acquires Danish Greentech Rotaprint and Swedish Skånsk Repro as part of its consolidation and acquisition strategy.
 
Gartner names Stibo Systems a leader in the 'Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management of Product Data Solutions' for second year in a row.

Stibo Systems is ranked as a 'Most Promising Retail Technology Solution Provider 2014' by CIO Review.

Stibo Systems establishes subsidiaries in Columbia and Spain.


2013
CCI acquires the Norwegian Internet company Escenic from Vizrt. CCI and Vizrt have been strategic partners since 2007. Escenic is an important part of CCI’s business strategy due to its strong expertise in online publishing.

After a very satisfactory result in the fiscal year 2012/13 with a growth in turnover of more than 50%, Stibo Systems reaches an important milestone in its history, as Gartner Inc. in November 2013 positions Stibo Systems as a leader in its 'Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management of Product Data Solutions' due to its ability to innovate and create lasting value for its customers.

The Information Difference ranks Stibo Systems highest in customer satisfaction in their '2013 MDM Landscape Report'.

Stibo Systems establishes a subsidiary in China.


2012
Stibo acquires Color Print A/S and Scanprint A/S. With its three well-established brands: Color Print, Scanprint and Stibo Graphic, Stibo's printing division becomes Scandinavian leader within its field.
 
Stibo Systems is named the winner of the '2012 Ventana Research Leadership Award for Service and Supply Chain Excellence'.

Stibo Systems establishes subsidiaries in Brazil, Canada, the Netherlands, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, France, and Hong Kong.

 

2011
CCI Magazine changes name to ’magPeople – a Stibo company’ in order to ensure the company a more independent profile than today and also to give a visible proof of the company’s focus on the magazine segment and related services.

2009
Stibo Catalog changes name to Stibo Systems as part of a rebranding effort enabling Stibo Systems to better align its corporate identity with its expanded strategic focus on MDM solutions.

2007
The foundation which owns Stibo changes name from Aarhuus Stiftsbogtrykkerie to STIBOFONDEN.

2006
Stibo creates a new business unit 'CCI Magazine' which offers a software solution (editorial tool) directed at magazine publishers. Stibo takes over Knowbody Aps. Knowbody develops software solutions for automating and optimizing graphic production processes with particular focus on Adobe's product suite.

2005
Stibo Graphic is divided into two divisions; Stibo Graphic and Stibo Graphic Software.

2004
Hans O. Damgaard is appointed Group CEO and takes over the management of the group.

2003
CCI Europe officially releases its new editorial content management system 'CCI NewsGate'.

2002

The group changes name from Aarhuus Stiftsbogtrykkerie to Stibo and now consists of the following divisions:

Stibo Graphic: publishing solutions within print and electronic publishing
CCI Europe: editing, advertising and archiving systems for newspaper publishers around the world
Stibo Catalogues: catalogue and content management for the publication of print and electronic media


2001
The group invests approx. DKK 180 million in a new corporate residence for CCI Europe. The new state-of-the-art building has won several architectural prizes.

2000
The group makes its largest technology investment so far by acquiring a 96-page LithoMAN IV, one of the world's largest heatset printing presses. CCI Europe launches the new 'BaseLine' project model.

1999
CCI Europe releases the first version of its cross-media advertising sales solution 'CCI AdDesk Sales'.

1998
Vilhelm Hvid is appointed Group CEO and takes over the management of the group together with Managing Director Hans O. Damgaard.

1997
The group invests in one of the world's largest binding facilities: 40-50 stations of 96 pages each.

1996
CCI Europe releases its new editorial solution 'CCI NewsDesk Editorial' as well as the new ad production solution 'CCI AdDesk Production'.

1994
The company celebrates its 200th anniversary and builds a new head office.
 
CCI Europe introduces its 'CCI NewsDesk' pagination system.
1992
CCI Europe wins its first North American newspaper contract.

1991
CCI Europe releases the CCI LayoutChamp tool targeted for editorial page design.

The 1990's
The rapid development within information technology leads to new activities in the company. Some of the new activities show so much potential that they develop into independent business areas and divisions.

1990
Stibo Graphic, the largest heatset department of the group, is founded in Horsens. As a result of an unyielding focus on quality and efficiency, Stibo Graphic has, in only a few years, become a major player in the European printing market.

1989
As one of the first companies in the world, we are able to handle all data and illustrations in 4 colours for catalogues and telephone directories in one fully digital production flow. This technology allows our customers to benefit from a very efficient page setup.

1988
CCI Europe shifts focus from the traditional graphics market to the newspaper publishing market.

1986
CCI Europe releases the first version of its WYSIWYG pagination tool 'CCI PageChamp'.

1985
Stibo Catalog opens its first office in the United States.

1984
CCI Europe completes the conversion of its software into the UNIX platform.

1983
CCI Europe centralizes all developments to its corporate headquarter in Denmark.

1979
CCI Europe is founded on the basis of the earlier acquisition of Computer Composition Inc. In the beginning, CCI Europe concentrated on developing systems for composing rooms and repro companies, but since the mid 1980's, CCI Europe has concentrated its activities on servicing customers in the newspaper industry. Today, CCI Europe excels at supplying cross-media solutions to the newspaper industry and has set up subsidiaries in Europe and USA.

1976
Stibo Catalog (formerly known as 'Stibo Datagrafik' and 'The Stibo Group') is established with the purpose of serving large international companies by handling the companies' product information to their customers. During the 1980's and 1990's, Stibo Catalog sets up regional offices in Great Britain, USA, Singapore, and Germany.

1975
The cooperation with the American company Computer 'Composition Inc.' is initiated. The purpose of this project is to optimise the technology used for the production of large telephone directories. The result is a major breakthrough in the use of information technology to the advantage of our customers within publishing of product catalogues and Yellow Pages telephone directories.

1969
Jørgen Bjerregaard, one of the first members of the group board with a university degree in economics, takes over the management of the group.

1966
The foundation 'Aarhuus Stiftsbogtrykkeries Fond' is founded, and the owner, Erik Kiær, transfers all his shares to the foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to ensure the long-term development and survival of the company. Since then, the profit of the company has been invested in new technology as well as in expanding and consolidating the activities of the group.

1949
Erik Kiær succeeds his father, Hans Kiær, as the owner and manager of the company.

1927
The company sells off the local newspaper 'Aarhus Stiftstidende'.

Hans Kiær buys Aarhuus Stiftsbogtrykkerie, which at that time was a renowned provincial printing house with 60 employees. Hans Kiær was an industrious businessman and a pioneering figure in the technological development of the company.


1794
Aarhuus Stiftsbogtrykkerie is founded as a company under royal charter by the Danish printer's assistant Niels Lund. In the beginning Aarhuus Stiftsbogtrykkerie primarily prints for the Church, the King, job printing shops, and a local newspaper.
